I am copying the timetable and details below for our upcoming planting parties!
We are nearly all set; dig out your raincoats and wellies! We may not have quite as nice a blue sky as on last Sunday, pictured left seen from Portmarnock – we can guarantee lots of fresh air for our holly-planting. Thanks to all our many supporters, we are putting all their names over on the “What we Do” page for now, let me know if we haven’t included you yet!
One last thing; schools, please bring along your cameras and you may like to share some photos of the day with us to inspire the upcoming schools; Listowel (coincidentally, another star Tidy Towns winner!) is welcoming easy treesie next week to start work on our Tree Week project in Town Park!

Thank you so much for joining us for the Jolly Holly Planting mornings organised by the easy treesie Project (Crann – Trees for Ireland). We are really excited to have four Malahide schools participating (Pope John Paul II National School; St. Oliver Plunkett’s School; St. Andrew’s School and; Malahide/Portmarnock Educate Together School).
Assisting with preparatory work over the two days will be volunteers from:
- Crann – Trees for Ireland (Patron, Uachtarán Michael D. Higgins)
- Malahide Tidy Towns
- Staff from the local Siemens facility (the Siemens Healthineers) and
- The Swords Woodland Association.
Our gratitude to all helping to beautify Malahide and capture carbon emissions. We are joining with children and volunteers in 67 other nations in this UN-backed challenge for the schoolchildren in each country to plant a million trees. The Mayor will join us to round off the project on Saturday 26th January at the Malahide Parish Community Centre when we will hold a Plant-for-the-Planet Tree Academy for children aged 8 – 12, details to follow.
Please see below the timetable for our shuttle transfers to the planting site. Our transport partners are the excellent Malahide Coaches who have gone to the trouble of sourcing us a mudproof bus! Please have a look at the times below and let me know if any of these times pose a difficulty for you or if there are any special circumstances pertaining to your group that you would like to share.

“Safety, fun and learning” is the motto of our project and appropriate safety instructions will be provided on the day. As normal, teachers will be responsible for their own classes during the event and we ask that each child be encouraged to be mindful of their own safety. The children will be using their hands as well as everyday gardening tools during this activity.
I would be grateful if you would bring to the attention of your visiting classes and the teacher in charge the following safety requirements when availing of the shuttle service;
- Ensuring each child wears their seat belt
- The children remain seated until the bus has stopped completely at each drop off location
- The children board and disembark the bus carefully and in an orderly fashion .
The long term forecast is fine for the days in question as I write, however the area is somewhat exposed and near to the sea and showers can always be expected. All participants – adults included – will need a coat and wellington boots or similar footwear. Please wear these when boarding the bus at your school, leaving your change of footwear easily accessible on the bus for your return so that you can change before re-entering your school. Children may wish to bring their own gardening gloves should they have a pair, though these will be provided as required. A bag to hold muddy boots is recommended. However, should the forecast change to inclement weather the event will be postponed as early as possible the previous day and notice will be provided including on the homepage of our website, www.easytreesie.com .
If for any reason your school has to withdraw from this activity before the event, please inform us using this email address with as much notice as possible to allow one of the many classes on our waiting list to participate instead.
