We are cominug up to the bare-root planting season!
Impatient to get planting? I have a few acorns from my oak tree in the garden and some from being out on walks; most excitingly, a few have sprouted. Fortunately we will not be relying on my personal garden nursery for our stock but it is fun to do and we had some success in the classroom last year, growing the ones we presented to Pope Francis on his recent visit. Here is a link from Crann magazine about growing your own oak tree from seed! http://www.askaboutireland.ie/learning-zone/primary-students/wild-games/recipes-and-experiments/growing-your-own-trees/. I’ve been getting tips from Edward of the Swords Woodland Association who has had lots of success with his Fingal schools’ projects and his Forest-in-a-box. Thanks Edward!
