“to amend the Forestry Act 2014 to make provision for schemes to facilitate the planting of native tree areas;”…great news I just heard at our Tree Council meeting this evening; this law has been signed by the President. Of course with Ash hammered and the amount of disease (oak processionary moth, Dublin City Council banning the planting of Rowan it its parks last season, Elm of course we remember as wiped out effectively) we would ask that lime, horse chestnut, beech and other common Irish trees etc. be also plantable, it makes sense for climate resilience. This is a start of the reverse that has us back in the 1940s in terms of quantities of trees being planted in Ireland.
